DAY 1: Arrival in Thessaloniki
Upon arrival at Thessaloniki Airport, you’ll travel by coach to Kavala (approximately 2.5 hours). Kavala, often regarded as one of Greece’s most picturesque mainland ports, holds a deep historical and spiritual significance. It was here that Paul, accompanied by Timothy and Silas, landed from Troas and was welcomed by Luke, the Evangelist. Explore the city’s Roman aqueduct and the ruins of the Acropolis. Originally known as Neapolis, this city was later renamed Christoupolis for its early embrace of Christianity.
DAY 2: Philippi and Kavala
Visit Philippi, where Paul preached his first sermon in Europe, and Lydia, the first European Christian, was baptized (Acts 16:12–18). Walk along the Via Egnatia, where Paul and Silas traveled, and see the ruins of this ancient city, including the Acropolis, the Market Place, the Basilica, and the theater. Experience the spiritual ambiance of the Gangitis River, the site of Lydia’s baptism.
DAY 3: Thessaloniki
Travel to Thessaloniki via Amphipolis and the River Strymon. Embark on a city tour, visiting landmarks like St. Demetrios Church and Osios David Church, famous for its early Christian mosaics. Learn about Thessaloniki’s rich history, from its Roman roots to its significance during Paul’s missionary journeys. Explore the city's connections to early Christianity and the challenges faced by Paul and his companions during their time here.
DAY 4: Thessaloniki - Cultural Exploration
Discover Thessaloniki’s vibrant history through its museums, Byzantine churches, and Roman monuments. Explore the bustling harbor, historical squares, and charming Upper Town (Ano Poli). Recommended sites include the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the White Tower, and the Palace Complex of Galerius.
DAY 5: Veria, Vergina, and Kalambaka
Depart Thessaloniki and journey to Kalambaka, stopping at Veria, where Paul’s teachings were more readily received by the local Jews (Acts 17:10–15). Continue to Vergina to visit the Tomb of Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great. Learn about his impactful reign and his contributions to the expansion of the Macedonian empire.
DAY 6: Meteora
Experience the awe-inspiring Meteora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These stunning rock formations host monasteries that seem to float above the clouds. Visit the remaining inhabited monasteries and admire their religious treasures, frescoes, and breathtaking views. Dress appropriately for entry, as long skirts for women and long trousers for men are mandatory.
DAY 7: Itea and Thermopylae
Travel to Itea, passing through the historic site of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas and his Spartan warriors made their legendary stand against the Persian army. Learn about the heroic defense that shaped Greek history and culture. Overnight in Itea amidst olive groves.
DAY 8: Delphi
Explore the ancient city of Delphi, considered the center of the world by the Greeks. Visit the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Temple of Athena Pronaia, and the Archaeological Museum, home to the iconic bronze charioteer statue. In the afternoon, visit the beautiful Osios Loukas Monastery, known for its intricate mosaics, before heading to Athens.
DAY 9: Athens
Discover Athens' iconic landmarks, including the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Areopagus. Stroll through the lively Plaka district, famous for its traditional tavernas and charming streets. Optionally, visit Cape Sounion to witness the breathtaking sunset at the Temple of Poseidon.
DAY 10: Corinth
Visit ancient Corinth, where Paul lived and preached for 18 months (Acts 18:1–17). Walk through the Agora and see the Bema, where Paul was brought before Gallio. Explore the ruins of the Temple of Apollo and the Acrocorinth, which offers panoramic views. Conclude the day at Kenchrea, where Paul set sail for Syria.
DAY 11: Departure
Bid farewell to Greece, carrying with you memories of a journey rich in history, spirituality, and cultural discovery. Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
